IRC-NL European Event: The role of biotechnology for industrial sustainability

The Flemish administration, together with partners from industry and science (steering committee) are organizing an internationalconference in Antwerp, 16 - 17 May 2002 on "The role of biotechnology for industrial sustainability". This is to our knowledge the first European conference dealing with industrial biotechnology on a broad basis. The idea has evolved from the OECD Task Force on Biotechnology for Sustainable Industrial Development who has recently published a report on 21 case studies.

The goal of the conference is to get more non-biotech industry interested in applying biotechnology and also put this type of biotechnology on the political agenda.

In 4 sessions we treat the following subjects:

- Saving resources

- Factory of tomorrow

- Limiting waste

- Green energy

Each session will be structured in a section 'science state-of-the-art and vision', 2 case studies and a policy speech.
