Hoe stel ik kort/maar krachtig een brief op??

Zelf ben ik werkzaam als agency die vechtsporters levert voor diverse gelegenheden... ik heb net een brief opgesteld naar een organisatie in Dubai.

 

Echter, ik heb mijn brief laten keuren door de sportbond waarbij ik aangesloten zit en die meldde mij dat de brief VÉÉÉL te lang is en de "wow-factor" ontbreekt.

Ondanks dat ik er zelfs van overtuigd was dat de brief zéér volledig is...

 

Volgens de sportbond moet een openings-brief in zo'n 30sec te lezen zijn en moet het niet veel langer worden als 5 zinnen.

(omdat er anders gewoonweg geen aandacht aan word besteed en in de prullenbak verdwijnt)

- Probleem is echter dat ze mij niet willen helpen aan een goede brief...

* En zelf heb ik geen idee welke stukken ik uit mijn brief moet verwijderen, aangezien het in MIJN ogen allemaal cruciale info bevat.

 

Hieronder mijn brief zoals ik hem op dit moment heb opgesteld.

Ik zou het zéér op prijs stellen als iemand me wat op weg zou willen helpen.

Dear Sir/Madam,

 

Dubai is well known for its worldclass architecture right?

I know that Dubai is planning to open up its ”Palm Tree Island” not too long from now... which is of course really spectacular.

Well, I’m able to arrange a special act, just to make the opening even more spectacular.

I work as a martial arts agency, and I’m looking for ways to build on the reputation of martial arts.

What better way to do this than join forces with a worldclass state like Dubai?

The martial artists that I work with (The Silver Dragons) are recognized as being among the worlds’ best martial artists, having won multiple world titles and dominating wherever they go. My idea would be to perform a demo, to open up the event (or as an evening highlight).

Of course we’re not only aiming at the opening of the Palm Tree Island, but we’re also willing to do other venues such as; hotel openings or any other presentations. To us it doesn’t really matter what kind of venues we have to perform at, whether we’re talking about a new Dubai Casino, or the worlds biggest Skyscrapper... you name it, we’ll take it!!

 

Why do I think martial arts fits into a worldclass environment such as Dubai??

Well, martial arts is all about aiming for perfection when it comes to power and performance.

Besides, we’re looking for ways to expand our target group... not only aiming at the martial arts audience, but also at the average people (in the ”regular world”).

Most people at events will not be interested to see a fight, that’s why we think our martial arts, choreographed to music will present the audience with a beautiful gift.

 

- With this letter I included a dvd, with some of the best footage of The Silver Dragons.

Please take your time to watch the dvd, and than decide if you’re interested in having these people at one or more of your events.

Als je eerst eens alle vetgedrukte zinnen weghaalt? Daarnaast: you don't work as an agency, you work at an agency or you own an agency.

 

Focus uitsluitend en alleen op de waarde die jij kunt leveren, niet op wat JIJ er aan hebt.

 

Als je een DVD meestuurt snappen ze echt wel dat ze die moeten bekijken, dus dat hoef je niet te schrijven. Verder, als het mogelijk is, kun je beter met hun contact opnemen (en dat dus in je brief zetten) dan wachten op hun reactie.

Bedoel je dat ik naast de brief contact moet zoeken per telefoon?

(of als eerste telefonisch contact en daarna pas de brief)

 

En komt dat niet enorm opdringerig over op hun, als ik ze meteen ga bellen?

Als eerste wil ik je adviseren contact op te nemen met een vertaalbureau bij je in de buurt. Ik snap je brief, maar je grammatica rammelt zo hard, dat de letters van het papier afrollen... ;) Niet kwaad bedoeld, maar de grammatica in het engels is heel anders ! Zo'n bureau kan je een eind op weg helpen.

 

Schrijf je brief nogmaals in het nederlands en neem deze ook mee...

over uitspraken van (top) ondernemers in het buitenland, die denken dat ze engels spreken....

Probeer eens een cursusje Engels te doen of laat je brieven vertalen in het vervolg. Je Engels komt nu niet zo erg professioneel over.

 

Persoonlijk zou ik je brief aan de kant gelegd hebben. Als een bedrijf mij informatie stuurt wil ik het snel door kunnen nemen en snel de bondige informatie uit de brief kunnen halen.

 

Daarnaast zou ik iets minder in de ik-vorm praten en meer in feiten dan in vragen praten in je brief. Je weet toch dat het evenement op de desbetreffende datum is? Waarom dan nog bevestiging vragen?

 

Probeer negatieve zinnen te vermijden. De zin waarin je stelt dat het publiek niet in een gevecht geïnteresseerd is, is een prima voorbeeld daarvan.

 

En laat de zinnetjes waarin je aangeeft echt niet op de grote opening te hoeven werken, maar bereid te zijn alles aan te willen pakken weg of formuleer ze anders. Het komt nu een beetje wanhopig op mij over.

 

Klinkt trouwens wel erg onaardig als ik het terug lees, maar het is echt als advies bedoeld. :)

To me it doesn’t really matter what kind of venues we have to perform at, whether we’re talking about a new Dubai Casino, or the worlds biggest Skyscrapper... you name it, we’ll take it!! (weglaten, ze zoeken geen Amerikaan vol misplaatst zelfvertrouwen)
