Stel je zou een onderneming in Afrika willen starten, welk land zou dan het meest geschikt zijn? De komende maanden zal ik hierover in dit topic informatie plaatsen.

The Ease of Doing Business Index is an index created by the World Bank. Higher rankings indicate better, usually simpler, regulations for businesses and stronger protections of property rights. Empirical research funded by the World Bank to justify their work claims to show that the effect of improving these regulations on economic growth is strong.

 

"Empirical research is needed to establish the optimal level of business regulation—for example, what the duration of court procedures should be and what the optimal degree of social protection is. The indicators compiled in the Doing Business project allow such research to take place. Since the start of the project in November 2001, more than 800 academic papers have used one or more indicators constructed in Doing Business and the related background papers by its authors."

 

Methodology

 

The index is based on the study of laws and regulations, with the input and verification by more than 8,000 government officials, lawyers, business consultants, accountants and other professionals in 183 economies who routinely advise on or administer legal and regulatory requirements.

 

The Ease of Doing Business index is meant to measure regulations directly affecting businesses and does not directly measure more general conditions such as a nation's proximity to large markets, quality of infrastructure, inflation, or crime. A nation's ranking on the index is based on the average of 10 subindices:

 

* Starting a business - Procedures, time, cost and minimum capital to open a new business

* Dealing with construction permits - Procedures, time and cost to build a warehouse

* Employing workers - Difficulty of hiring index, rigidity of hours of index, difficulty of redundancy index, rigidity of employment index, redundancy costs

* Registering property - Procedures, time and cost to register commercial real estate

* Getting credit - Strength of legal rights index, depth of credit information index

* Protecting investors - Indices on the extent of disclosure, extent of director liability and ease of shareholder suits

* Paying taxes - Number of taxes paid, hours per year spent preparing tax returns and total tax payable as share of gross profit

* Trading across borders - Number of documents, cost and time necessary to export and import

* Enforcing contracts - Procedures, time and cost to enforce a debt contract

* Closing a business - Index of recovery rate which is a function of time, cost and other factors such as lending rate and the likelihood of the company continuing to operate

 

For example, according to the Doing Business 2010 report, Australia ranked third on the first subindex "Starting a business" behind only New Zealand and Canada. In Australia there are 2 procedures required to start a business which take on average 2 days to complete. The official cost is 0.8% of the Gross National Income per capita. There is no minimum capital requirement. By contrast, in Guinea-Bissau which ranked among the worst (183nd out of 183) on this same subindex, there are 16 procedures required to start a business taking 213 days to complete. The official cost is 323.0% of the gross national income per capita. A minimum capital investment of 1006.6% of the gross national income per capita is required.

 

While fewer and simpler regulations often imply higher rankings, this is not always the case. Protecting the rights of creditors and investors, as well as establishing or upgrading property and credit registries, may mean that more regulation is needed.

Allan Savory argues that while livestock may be part of the problem, they can also be an important part of the solution. He has demonstrated time and again in Africa, Australia and North and South America that, properly managed, they are essential to land restoration. With the right techniques, plant growth is lusher, the water table is higher, wildlife thrives, soil carbon increases and, surprisingly, perhaps four times as many cattle can be kept.

 

De eerste 20 minuten is het even doorbijten, maar daarna laat hij een praktische, consistent werkende methode zien om desertification tegen te gaan, welke al op redelijk grote schaal toegepast wordt.

What are the Millennium Development Goals?

 

 

The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) are the most broadly supported, comprehensive and specific development goals the world has ever agreed upon. These eight time-bound goals provide concrete, numerical benchmarks for tackling extreme poverty in its many dimensions. They include goals and targets on income poverty, hunger, maternal and child mortality, disease, inadequate shelter, gender inequality, environmental degradation and the Global Partnership for Development.

 

 

Adopted by world leaders in the year 2000 and set to be achieved by 2015, the MDGs are both global and local, tailored by each country to suit specific development needs. They provide a framework for the entire international community to work together towards a common end – making sure that human development reaches everyone, everywhere. If these goals are achieved, world poverty will be cut by half, tens of millions of lives will be saved, and billions more people will have the opportunity to benefit from the global economy.

 

The eight MDGs break down into 21 quantifiable targets that are measured by 60 indicators.

 

* Goal 1: Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger

* Goal 2: Achieve universal primary education

* Goal 3: Promote gender equality and empower women

* Goal 4: Reduce child mortality

* Goal 5: Improve maternal health

* Goal 6: Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases

* Goal 7: Ensure environmental sustainability

* Goal 8: Develop a Global Partnership for Development

Beste Xiao. De UN beschikt over onderzoeksrapporten, die poverty e.d. van de 3e wereldlanden over een tijdsbestek van 10 jaar in beeld brengen. Die rapporten zijn echter geclassificeerd. Ik heb (in mijn toenmalige functie) ooit zo'n uitgebreid rapport op mijn bureau gekregen en daarin staan ook de te verwachten sterfaantallen e.d. opgenomen. Die info krijg je echt niet boven de tafel. Bovendien komt dit meer in de buurt van gewone hulp dan van hulp d.m.v. een ondernemersinitiatief.

Bovendien komt dit meer in de buurt van gewone hulp dan van hulp d.m.v. een ondernemersinitiatief.

 

Dit is alleen nog het verzamelen van informatie, welke uit allerlei bronnen kan komen, dus ook van de UN. Ook dit soort informatie is belangrijk voor het bepalen van het ondernemingsklimaat.

 

Die info krijg je echt niet boven de tafel.

De uitdaging in dit topic is betrouwbare, geconcentreerde informatie te verzamelen. De bron is minder belangrijk. We hebben nu al informatie van de WorldBank en de UN. Wat zijn nog meer logische bronnen?

Iedereen heeft zijn eigen manier van problemen oplossen. Mijn manier is zoveel mogelijk informatie te verzamelen, deze te laten bezinken, en daarna op een Eureka moment te wachten wat de beste oplossing zou kunnen zijn.

 

In dit geval verzamel ik dus zoveel mogelijk informatie over de verschillende landen, (of eerst: probeer ik te kijken waar deze informatie te vinden is). Laat ik deze informatie op me inwerken, en dan wacht ik op een Eureka moment om te beslissen welk land me het meeste aanspreekt (en welk businessmodel het meest geschikt is).

10voorafrika (of zo iets) dat was een goede maar je bent alleen aan het brainstormen (in je zelf). Kennis is hier genoeg. Denk eens aan mensen werven, dat was het doel. En dan verder. Trek niet alles naar je toe. Se7en was die met het idee kwam. Gilles was erg geïnteresseerd. PJ ook. micheldraaijer zit daar! We hadden al iets op kunnen zetten met deze mensen. Je begint met 6 maanden om een ondernemingsplan te maken....

 

Dit loopt al stuk op bureau dingen. Doen!

Ik ben zelf maar begonnen om naar bedrijven in Afrika te zoeken, die bepaalde werkzaamheden voor me kunnen doen. Dat gaat echt niet via een topic hier en lijkt me ook wat directer. Als ik er succes mee heb zal ik het melden.

Ze hebben vaak geroepen praat eens Nederlands. Ook in dit topic begrijp ik er niets van. Dat is wat ik zeg. Eeen hoop bla bla maar niets concreets.

 

Als je het "punt" zelf niet weet waarom de "kennis" hier niet vragen.

 

We willen hier armoede en/of werkgelegenheid scheppen/verhelpen. Je komt met grote VN verhalen en subsidies. Onderzoeken waar het wel werkt enz. enz. Die kennis zit hier al... Je moet ze alleen mee krijgen.

 

Zit er ook een deur in die Nooduitgang ???

Ben het compleet met je eens. Vanaf eerste post leek dit me super om mee te denken en me in te verdiepen. Maar ging gaandeweg flink twijfelen aan mijn iq.... Snap echt helemaal niks meer dooral die posts.....

Probeer dan zelf wat beter te lezen in plaats van anderen steeds proberen te willen corrigeren.

Nou begin ik me te irriteren.

 

Wat is er precies mis met het eerst in kaart willen brengen van het lokale ondernemingsklimaat? En waarom moet dezelfde discussie weer gevoerd worden nadat het vorige topic hierdoor ontspoorde?

Xiao. Wij zijn ondernemers en geen studenten, die eerst allerlei onderzoeken moeten doen voordat er iets "zou" worden gedaan....... Wij zijn dagelijks bezig met DOEN en hebben genoeg bagage om dat met vakmanschap en kennis te onderbouwen. Zoals ik al schreef heb ik een vriend in Kenia en ik heb hem gevraagd te bekijken of er mogelijkheden zijn om onderdelen voor mij, in zijn regio, te produceren. Ik kies dan speciaal de onderdelen waarvan de toleranties niet zo scherp hoeven te zijn. Dat betekent dat er concrete handel moet komen van bedrijven uit Afrika naar bedrijven in de westerse wereld. Daar heb je toch geen studentiek onderzoekje voor nodig?

Je kunt nooit genoeg baggage hebben. En over dit onderwerp is het duidelijk dat er niet veel kennis is op HL, of in ieder geval niet bij mezelf.

 

Nogmaals: wat is er precies mis met het eerst in kaart willen brengen van het lokale ondernemingsklimaat?

 

 

 

Over 3 jaar ben jij nog steeds allerlei zaken in kaart aan het brengen. Wat heb jij zelf concreet te bieden aan Afrika als het om productiviteit gaat?
