Starting a kinderdagverblijf is profitable?

Recommended Posts

Hi,
I am posting in English because my Dutch language is not so good at this moment but I will post the translation from google translate also.

I am Thinking to start a kinderdagverblijf of two groups (15 child) in a big city like Rotterdam.I did some research but I am not sure from the results yet or if is real. I would be thankful for some advise to my questions.

I need an estimation answers so it doesn't need to be accurate.

1- How much does it cost to open a kinderdagverblijf of two groups (15 child)?

2- Is it profitable?

2- What is the expect ROI (Return of investment)?

Thanks in advance,

Beshr

Beshr

Maybe take a look at the link below first to see what is actually required to start a kinderdagverblijf. Profitability can never be discussed in general terms, because it mostly depends on very local factors and personal competence.

The goal of a resonance cascade is to plant the seeds of growth rather than yearning. If you think pseudo-profound bullshit quotes are inspirational, you're, well, kinda dumb. https://goo.gl/fZf4oe

So these are some analytics for the sector..
https://www.rabobank.nl/bedrijven/cijfers-en-trends/dienstverlening/kinderopvang/

From CBS (Statistics bureau in the Netherlands). This is a starting point to look for use of Kinderopvang down to zipcode. so very good info to see what potential revenue cloud be.
https://www.cbs.nl/nl-nl/maatwerk/2018/26/kinderopvang-op-postcode-4-niveau-2017

Currently kinderopvang is on a "high" economicly.. the waiting lists are growing..

Here link to some more statistics from the sector organisation (Branche organisatie)
https://www.kinderopvang.nl/nieuws/nieuwsbericht?newsitemid=4050845696

Lot of statistics, maybe you seen some of it.. But this will give you some insights to the marketpotential.
If you do a google search for "franchise kinderopvang" you will find multiple organisations that will offer such business opportunities.
it might be a good option of you are not to well known with the Dutch market and regulations.

The change of a individual business owner sharing there experience online about profatbility is very small I think

The best way to get more info about running a Kinderdagverblijf is to eigther call one yourself in another city where you will not be a competitor to them.
Or to ask a franchise company if they have some business owners that are willing to share there experience.

Also consider contacting schools in your city, as schools are partly responsible for before and after school daycare for their pupils.. and they often know which area is lacking daycare or has low qualitiy daycare.

Contacting the department of education of your city counsel can also help find the needs in your city.
And as a third option if you are in a large city you can also consider contacting the larger Interantional companies they often have a lot of expats that may have special wishes for daycare.

Good luck with this new adventure, I hope this helps you on your way to find the right information.

Did you try contacting some children's day care owners through LinkedIn?

Other ways to find people from this field of expertise (or any other) is through network events and the branch organization(s)?

A quick Google search:

branch organization:

https://www.kinderopvang.nl/

https://www.kinderopvang.nl/event?eventid=4049600512

an event organizer:

http://www.kindvak.nl/

You can only do so much while sitting in front of a computer. Get yourself out there!

To state the obvious: I don't think many Dutch people in this field are very fluent in English.

Anticipate to be misunderstood... :classic_wink:

Addition:

I think there might be some day cares targeting expat families in big cities. That might be a good starting point for you.

Those typically provide a higher level of service though, which may be hard to compete with as a newcomer on a limited budget.

E.g. I noticed the other day that the local international day care here put up a sign advertising they provide the kids warm meals cooked by a professional chef.

Less competition in such an upcoming niche...

...and the customers (parents) have money to spend.

Not being Dutch could be an advantages in this case.

I actually think starting a children's day care nearby offices of big international companies who hire internationally is a potential goldmine.

Especially with a high price strategy.

Talking to HR departments of those big companies could be a way in...
