Handwoven African baskets, handicrafts & products

I intend to start a small scale business in the Netherlands selling handwoven African baskets, trays, table mats, bicycle baskets, laundry baskets, etc. What is the best way to sell these in the Netherlands? Is it a big thing in the Netherlands? Is there any financial help regarding this sort of business in the Netherlands? Would appreciate some direction. Thanks.

For the home goods you mentioned theres obviously demand, and with 'hand-woven from Africa' as the selling point, it could work. There's nothing wrong with your idea, but everything will depend on the actual products, their prices, and how you market it. I wouldn't worry to much about the market size, but focus on a good proposition for the customer.

Hello Beautinow, thanks for your advice.

Are you based (living, registered, etc) in the Netherlands? How do you make a living now?

It seems you know the supply side (suppliers and different products) but have not spent time to look at the demand side. Market research! Get on the bus and look around. Who is using what? Where do they buy? What do they pay? What are their preferences? What gets sold and what not? Why?

Don't just look at consumers but also try to understand the whole value chain: producers, distributors, wholesale, retail. You might find a branche on that tree that is an opportunity.
