Taxation query for remote work from The Netherlands

Hi All,

I have recently moved to The Netherlands on a spouse visa from Ireland, which makes me eligible to work and thus pay taxes here. I am currently working remotely for a company based in Dublin, Ireland.

I would like to know the best possible way to handle my taxes. Should I continue paying them in Ireland, or do I need to shift this to The Netherlands? Do I need to inform my employer about this change, and if so, what adjustments should I ask them to make regarding my tax setup?

Any advice or expertise on this would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks

Abhilasha

Hello Abhilasha,

I advise you to indeed inform your employer about this matter, so they can (hopefully) assist you.

Are you really employed by this Irish company? Do they pay a salary?

If "Yes" then:

Of course you have to inform them about the fact that you have emigrated. So that they can handle this new situation (that they have got a employee in a foreign country).

If you are more a 'freelancer'- working remote - then you should send invoices to them and register yourself for VAT here in NL.

"What, me worry?"

Hi Ruben,

With this situation I am looking to have a sole proprietorship account so that's the reason I wanted to understand how it works, If I start my own business whether as a company or freelance and provide the services. With that I can have more projects on my table being into marketing & sales.

Hope to get some assistance on it.

Best,

Since you called the company your employer, I assumed you are an employee. But if you're looking to start your own business, I'd advise you to take a look at Business.gov.nl, a website in English by our government which provides you with a lot of information about starting your business here.
