Importing from Iran

I'm working on a project to start a trading company to import Raw Steel Material from Iran to the Netherlands. I'm a beginner in the importing area.

Does anybody have experience in this? or Importing from Iran to the Netherlands in general?

How are you going to get money into Iran to pay for the product? Not via a regular bank and especially not in USD.

For a beginner, the best advice is to consult a customs broker/specialist. Importing requires, apart from the obvious logistics, customs import declarations, with payment of (any) import duty and import VAT. Declaration are done electronically, if you don't have your own software you will need an customs broker anyway. And that's just the beginning.

 

If you import steel raw materials it's very likely you will have to comply with the CBAM-regulation (Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism) which requires you to report, and eventually pay for, the CO-2 emmissions of the imported goods.

I'm gonna have a partner in Iran who will be responsible for exporting the products, so I won't pay for the products in the first place.

 

Even it's not possible to use hawala to Iran or vice versa because of the sanctions.

 

Right now, I'm gathering information about finances and feasibility. If it is doable to import directly from Iran to the Netherlands, and how much the expends. will be!
