Does âquality over quantityâ still work in the Dutch SME market? Looking for insight

Thank you for the warm welcome and for sharing those insights! You hit the nail on the head regarding the "average Dutch consumer"âit's a myth thatâs becoming increasingly irrelevant. The shift away from low-quality mass-market products towards unique, sustainable goods is definitely the trend Iâm observing as well. To answer your question: I prefer communicating in English here simply because my business operations are international, and it's become my default "business language." However, I appreciate the heads-upâI'm definitely learning the nuances of the Dutch market as I go! I find your approach to focusing on the right niche very interesting. If you don't mind me asking, how did you initially go about identifying that specific niche? Was it a process of trial and error, or did you spot a gap in the market based on customer feedback?

Does âquality over quantityâ still work in the Dutch SME market? Looking for insight
Hi everyone, Iâve been observing the Dutch market for a while, specifically in the jewelry and high-end beauty sector. Thereâs a constant debate in my head: we all know the Dutch market is famously pragmatic and price-conscious, but does the âGezelligâ quality (the need for something authentic and durable) still outweigh the pressure of mass-market trends? Iâve been working on sourcing collections where the craftsmanship is the main driver. In my experience, even with high-inflation pressure, Dutch customers donât just want a "cheap deal"âthey want a story and a product that lasts. However, Iâve also noticed that the supply chain agility required to meet these demands is getting harder to balance. Iâm curious to hear from other entrepreneurs here: Are you seeing a shift in what your clients value most this year? Do you feel that "price" is still the #1 factor, or is the Dutch consumer becoming more selective about where they spend their money? Iâm currently navigating the balance between maintaining premium standards and keeping products accessible. Iâd love to hear your thoughts or if youâve faced similar challenges when scaling your business here. Looking forward to hearing your perspectives! Best, Sophie de Vries
