This is a blog about my experiences with a Internet Satellite Supplier (name to be revealed when this issue is not solved). More important, this is a blog which addresses all entrepreneurs, about the extreme high value of happy and loyal customers.
What's up?
We live in the countryside in Germany, close to the Dutch border. In our village, we do not have DSL-internet. We do have telephone lines, but with internet connection up to 384Kbps. This was a great internet speed in 1998, but nowadays a joke. Imagine, a household with grown up kids, 5 computers, and you can not even see a YouTube video. Imagine, you are a video producer, and you can not see your own videos. We do not count MegaBytes, we live GigaBytes.
The solution
Happily, there is a satellite, up in the sky at 36,000 kilometers. Happily, there is a commercial firm where you can rent satellite connection. 20Mbps download, 6MBps upload. For an average family, this is suffucient. For a video producer, it is doable.
When we signed up, no sign of any data limit could be found ath their website. It appeared, we had a data limit of 10 Gigabit per month. Again, normally, this is sufficient. Unfortunately, I had to upload a client project and I used our monthly limit in one (!) day. After a phone call with their customer support, I upgraded to a higher plan with 30 Gigabit per month, at €59,95 a month. Everyone happy. I even promoted this service to many of our neighbours, who all lacked fast internet connection.
Oh oh!
Last week I decided to upgrade to an unlimited plan, which was advertised at €79,95 for new customers. My 30GB plan was advertised for €49,95. You see, this firm values new customers higher than existing and loyal customers. I emailed the support, and they confirmed I could upgrade immediately to the €79,95/month unlimited plan. I said yes. Then another email came in. "Your new plan costs €99,95 a month, the €79,95 is only for NEW customers". I was furious and still am. How stupid can you be?
This firm forgets that a HAPPY and LOYAL customer makes the money for you. I expect to live another 30 years here, so as a happy and loyal customer I value at 30*12*€79,95 totals €28,782. That's a lot of money. For any company, a €28K customer is an important client!
This firm thinks they can f#ck me. I like to be f#cked, but only by my wife. When someone tries to screw me, I get angry. This firms screws me for €20 a month. The result: I start shopping to find another supplier. Probably they lose an €28K customer for €20 a month. Not a wise business decision, true?
How do you treat your existing customers? Wanna screw them or do you really value them? Let me know in the comments, please.
